Resolved: Prioritizing economic development over environmental protection is in the best interest of the people of India.
With two NFL districts holding NatQuals this weekend, I wanted to get some files up on India. The current articles, from 2013 and 2014, can be found in the Extemp files – India subfolder. The Extemp backfiles for India can be found here. Also of possible interest is the NYTimes blog India Ink.
It strikes me that lessons from China may be applicable to India. China would seem to be ahead of India developmentally, and they do seem to have prioritized economic development over environmental protection. The China subfolder in the Extemp files has articles on China’s environmental problems, and two NYTimes blogs may be of use – China and the Environment and Sinosphere. The former was active for a few months to deal with the environmental questions; the latter is an ongoing blog with a much wider timespan.
Occasional articles from the India Ink and Sinosphere blogs make their way into the Extemp files, usually if they appear in the print edition (the Today’s Paper link on the NYT homepage). With the NYTimes (and other publications) being behind a paywall, the folks at PC World, in an article about the privacy/incognito modes of Firefox/Chrome, mentioned that the mode’s lack of setting cookies can ease paywall issues.
