What’s happening elsewhere on the question of domestic surveillance.

German Officials Suspend Treason Inquiry of Bloggers, but Public Still Seethes

Can you combat terrorism today without monitoring social media? If some sort of online surveillance is necessary to combat terrorism, is asking for more money unreasonable? Should such documents have been classified as secret? (As can be seen here, that classification has some really serious implications.) How much should people of any country know about what their government is doing? Would too much information compromise intelligence gathering abilities?
